I recently had the pleasure of photographing my friend Natalie's son, Taylor. He is such a cute kid and boy did he get a lot of comments on facebook from his pictures.
Meet Taylor Hopper BVW Senior. I have selected three Senior girls from Harrisonville high school to represent West Elm Photography for the school year! They are all talented, sweet, down to earth and happy to call them my friends.
Meet Baylee, Lara & Briana...thanks ladies! Not too often do I branch away from my subject to capture what's going on around me but this time I couldn't resist. I must share some of the behind the scenes pictures from my session with Briana for her senior portraits, they are touching and sweet and just real moments that I'm glad I captured between family and one awesome boyfriend. Big props to boyfriend Chance, without him I would have had no reflections, no "real" smiles from Briana, no chairs in the middle of fields, no posing inspiration and no one to lift Briana. I think I have found a new assistant. ;) Thanks Chance Kara and Jeff, your beautiful daughter is so sweet, loving and kind and she has grown into such a perfect example of excellent guidance and nurturing love. Kudos... Jenna...your hay bale photos are the most wonderful candid photos I could have ever taken...so glad I turned around and caught them before you jumped off. Enjoy! Red hair, freckles and squishy cheeks, you melt my heart! I recently had the pleasure of meeting Cindy, her husband Jeff and their three beautiful children. I knew the moment I first talked to Cindy on the phone that her and I would click in person and we sure did, I love her!! I hope to see her again along with her amazing family, they were too fun!
Here are some images from our session, enjoy. So for the past week and half my husband has been in Africa hunting and boy does he owe me when he returns...anyways, the boys chose this time to mature by about a year. I wake up this morning and they have already helped themselves to the fridge and it looks like Dean had chocolate pudding for breakfast. Mind you I have TWO childproof "locks" on the fridge...oh well, that's out the window. They also learned all of a sudden how to climb on the counter tops and put things in the microwave, thank goodness they don't know how to turn it on yet. What else have they learned? oh yes! the volume on their sound machine and every morning I'm greeted with the ocean and sea gulls in my ear every morning...at 5 a.m.
Here are some pics of this mornings breakfast, mind you, I'm not helping the situation when I take pictures of it all...he knows what's going on, I tried not to smile. I would first like to give a big THANK YOU for all the wonderful applicant's in my 2014 Senior Model Representative Search! Briana Schrock Lara Floyd Baylee Goss I would like to meet with all three girls together first to go over details and scheduling. Call me and/or text me (816.665.6505)to let me know that you have seen this announcement...by the way, YAY! Can't wait to meet you girls, this is going to be so much fun! ~Robin Cheyenne - Class of 2013School Starts and then time flies by so fast and it's already winter! I think the best time of year for your portraits is the summer time! You still have a great tan or for me, more freckles and you are able to wear your shorts, show off your toes or you guys, you could even go shirtless (if that's your thing). The late summer nights have the best and most flattering light, the grass is green, the flowers are in bloom, all in all it's a gorgeous time of year.
Below are some of summer sessions I had in the past, How The best part of slow season is the extra time I get to take pictures of the boys just being...well, boys.
Here are some images I took all in the matter of 3 minutes. We go from happy to be sitting next to each other to trying to push one out of the chair to then hugging on each other. Oh geez, this is really my life in few pictures...emotion for the moment, sitting next to me as I type this. In fact, I'll let them contribute a little in their own words, here ya go... Dean: y8gjihlo\hh,.tgn nnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn Tred: mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm Happy Monday All! ~Robin Over the past few weeks I have been taking more pictures of my "babies" and in each I see just how much they are turning into little boys, definitely not babies anymore. They enjoy flashlights, bugs (stepping on them), wrestling with each other, mud, sweets and pretty much just making messes wherever they go...they remind me of Pig Pen from Charlie Brown. Constantly dirty.
The images below are a series of Dean, my oldest by one minute. He is my helper, my momma's boy, my very sensitive one and my ever so defiant one...oh man is he defiant. He is also my son and just to say that is bringing tears to my eyes (wonder why he's so sensitive? ha) . He is my fit thrower, mess maker, screamer but yet my cuddler, my puppy dogged eye heart of gold child. Dean, I hope I guide you on the right path and that your someday memories of childhood are happy ones, I love you more than you will ever know. Images below were taken at night and I thought it was only appropriate to include the B&W "mood" to the images. Met the Parks at Loose Park last Sunday for what turned out to be a great session. Kathy and Kyle along with Taylor & Brady, whom we will call Mr. Busy Pants. We all had fun in the shade watching the kids run around and every now and then stop for a family portrait...Brady with is gorgeous deep set brown eyes maybe looked at the camera 5 times but none the less, I have lots of pictures of the top of his beautiful blond head. Taylor was a sweetheart and cooperated quite well, I got lots of pictures of her cute face. Here are a few from the session that I am working on and every day I'm working on a few more. Have a great 4th of July everyone...be safe!
I am currently looking for 2 individuals to be my representatives at Harrisonville High School for 2014! This year it's Harrisonville's turn and next year I will be looking for representative from another school. As a representative, you will receive a free one hour session, 3 mini accordion booklets to show everyone your pictures and an online viewing gallery of all your images. Plus your own business cards! Yes, business cards! In return for the free session I am requesting that you spread the word about West Elm Photography by showing your fellow students your images and handing them a business card. You get a free session and I get more business...it's a win win! Please fill out this questionnaire...I'm looking for 2 models by the end of July. You know someone that might be interested? send them here! I recently left my job as a part time phlebotomist to be home 24/7 with my twin boys. With all the bad things happening to kids & schools in the news in the past year, my anxiety levels were through the roof everyday I sent them to daycare. SO, I quit my part time gig, now focusing on photography full time AND became a full time mom again. Below are some of the pictures I've captured while at home with the boys, our favorite time is the morning...breakfast, Bubble Guppies, Potty Training and redecorating mommy's office (every day) while still in our PJ's. These boys are a handful, the house is a constant mess no matter how much I pick it up and sometimes their screams can break a window but hey, being home with them everyday is right where I want to be...until 6:00, then daddy's home and I can take a break. ha
By the way... Thank you Tom for letting me have this opportunity, I love you and I love our happy life. Thank you. My husbands cousin whom I adore (!!!!!!) asked if I would photograph her girls and of course I obliged! I am so happy with the results, these girls are unique in their own beautiful way...one has green eyes, one has blue, one has freckles, one does not. Seriously beautiful girls inside AND out!
Enjoy some of my favorite pictures from the day. ©westelmphotography | 2013 I was contacted about a month ago by Ryan who ran across my website while researching photographers in Kansas City...and I'm so glad he did! He explained to me that he was going to propose to his girlfriend Lauren but he wanted her to think that he was taking her to a photography class as a birthday present. I agreed that I would act as a photography teacher (I was awful, ask Lauren, ha) but really I would be there to capture the beautiful moment Ryan had planned. I had suggested Kauffman Gardens and told him I would get there early to scope the area out and find the perfect spot for him to propose...I was so nervous I showed up 45 minutes early just to make sure I had the perfect spot. I mean, this was a big deal and I was going to make sure everything was perfect! So here we go, it's 4:30 and I see Ryan and Lauren make their way into the Gardens and Lauren has her awesome camera in tow, oh yes and by now I forgot all the stuff I was going to "teach" her on cameras, I had actually practiced and now I'm looking at her and completely spaced everything. Is it possible I was more nervous than Ryan? nah but close! I just wanted to make sure I did everything I was supposed to do, this was the big day and I was not going to let Ryan down. Now let's get started on these pictures... Here is my "student" eager to learn all there is about cameras...hahahaha bless her heart, I'm literally clueless...I told her I always take pictures of my students. oh geez After her picture I then said "why don't I get a picture of you both and then I'll tell you about how I got the lighting on the image"...still not a teacher...keep in mind, it's a picture of them pre-engaged! awwww Ryan knew from our conversations that after I snapped a picture of the two of them, this was his time. Ok, here's the moment...tears are now forming...seriously, I did cry a little, it was just so sweet!!! Beautiful couple and now ENGAGED!!! So happy I was chosen to capture this moment that will forever be with them. Thank you Ryan, your a doll and I hope you do have twins someday (wild, crazy ones. ha) and Lauren, your personality and use of a cuss word at the best moment were awesome. Much love to you both as you open this next chapter in your life. xoxo ~Robin
P.S. I do weddings too...just sayin' I recently got to hang out with a dear friend of mine this past weekend. I have not seen Melody in oh, 10 years!! She looked the same only better, not that this is a stretch, but I've never seen her so radiant. Here are some of the images from our amazing day together. All Images are ©westelmphotography
Just a little behind these days with my blog posts but things are slowing down a bit so now I can write. This is a family session I did weeks ago at the grand Union Station in Kansas City, MO and FINALLY I get to sit down and publish it. yay! This was a session that I walked away knowing I had some awesome pics, I love that feeling. I got home and learned I had entirely too many good shots..so needless to say, when a session package states they will only receive so many images, well, this time I exceeded the minimum by A LOT. Family + lots o' pics = over joyed! Below are some of my faves Enjoy! All Images are ©westelmphotography
Love it when I get that call to again photograph this amazing family! This time it was only the little spice that I got to have a session with this and oh my goodness she is still just as beautiful as the first time I took her picture, look at this cute thang!!
When this little cuteness become a model, she'll remember me right? I recently had the pleasure of meeting Jordan and Doug and the honor of photographing their very cute family. Jordan is one busy mom with 6 children to care for but yet, she is just as gorgeous and sweet as ever and makes motherhood look like a breeze...what an inspiration, makes me feel silly for even mentioning how drained I am with my twins. ha
I hope you enjoy the pictures and these are just a handful of soooooo many more, I wanted to hurry and get some posted before the family leaves for Disney World this week. What Fun!! I've added some favorite candid's as well as the great formal family shots too. enjoy! This months submission for Rock the Shot's Motherhood challenge is the one I took of my friend Hilary and her daughter. Hilary and her daughter have this connection that just draws people to stare, they are either always holding hands, snuggled up together or laughing with one another, their beauty is also captivating.
I chose this picture because this was not a posed shot, I was standing by them pretending to capture daddy and baby but I was actually capturing a beautiful moment between mommy and daughter, as seen here. This picture literally makes my heart melt and that is why I chose to edit it in more of a rosy blend, Hilary has amazing red hair and bringing out more of the red tones only made sense to me because they also make me blush. For more submissions you can visit www.rocktheshotforum.com Wish me luck! Recently met the beautiful Leslie and her oh so handsome son, Armando. What a fun session we had in the River Market, Kansas City. His outfit was perfect for the setting and his pictures turned out great due to him being just the cutest thing ever!! Enjoy some of my favorite shots from the day.
I love how these pictures turned out, you can really see the emotion in all of them. We have baby Lucas who is 2 weeks old and then precious 6 year old Haleigh. I'm also using my new lens, my Nikon 50mm 1.4 and oh my! the picture quality paired with my D800 is amaze-balls! I have 4 more shoots in the next 2 weeks and I'm uber excited!
I recently had the privilege of photographing this amazing and fun family! Mind you, it was soooo cold outside but everyone put on their happy face and we ended up having a really good time. Here are some of the shots from the day...
Since it has been a snowy mess the entire month of March, I am now able to edit some pictures of my own family, yay! I have so many pictures that have been on hold waiting for days like today. As I type this I have one little guy sitting on my lap, so as you can see I don't have much free time anymore for keeping up with my editing or my blog that is...but of course, I wouldn't have it any other way.
Enjoy some of my boys' pics, aren't they the cutest? Out of all the colorful pictures I took this past year, this muted b&w picture is my favorite. I had a vision for this picture, I brought the props and just told them what to do...I'm very good at that. ha!
And Presto, here is my vision, exactly how I invisioned it! I chose a very simple almost grainy texture and played around with the saturation, I was going for an editorial look. Not too many techniques to this picture, I just focused on the setting and the subjects, leaving you, the viewer, the ability to see this family as maybe yourself. Does that even make sense? does in my wittle mind. heehee I love the story this picture tells...and the subjects are beyond beautiful too, that always helps. I am submitting my picture to www.rocktheshotforum.com for their January contest and I hope they see the story I am telling too. Wish me luck gang, if I win the contest, I will win some awesome prizes that will help my photog gig even more! |
