I know I've been slacking at blogging but life has been so busy lately, which is great by the way!
One thing I love to do is photography, duhh but modeling photography is always fun. Not only do I get to work with well versed models but it makes for beautiful images because them knowing what they are doing makes my life so much easier and makes room for lots of pictures.

Kansas City Style Closet + Studio

Some of you may remember when Tom Cruise jumped up and down on a couch in front of Oprah because he was sooo in love, remember? Well, at the time, I'm thinking what a weirdo (I may still think that) but you know what? I TOTALLY GET IT!! Each person that calls, texts, emails, DM's me for an appointment, I pretty much count down the days until I meet them and practically jump up and down when they arrive. Little do they know that I'm so thrilled they picked me! Not only did they pick me out of the hundreds of photographers but they saw quality in my art and to them it set me apart from the others and well, that makes me so giddy!
Not only do I enjoy portrait photography but I thoroughly enjoy styling my subjects as well! I have THE largest style studio in Kansas City and I am constantly updating to make sure I have all sizes and styles of clothes. Make an appointment and check it out sometime!

random thoughts

Oh what a time of uncertainty! Here I am still planning for upcoming sessions by buying items for the style closet but at the same time I worry that I won't get to see anyone in the amazing items I already have. I'm a worrier, I worry about my business and it's success rate during these times. I have an amazing studio which is not cheap but I place I chose to make beautiful so my clients receive the luxury experience they pay for. Right now I am writing checks for water, internet, mortgage, electricity and I'm not even there to use any of it nor am I having money come in to help with these bills. I hope I bring in clients late spring not only for financial reasons but also because I love what I do so much and I love being able to bring out confidence in youth.
Anyways, pretty sure no one reads my blogs anyways so if you are thank you for reading my thoughts.

As I get ready for the 2021 model team I can't help but be reminded on how amazing my current 2020 team is and how super fast time passes us by.
Every year I select my team shortly into their second semester as Juniors, some are still just 16 years old (awww) and then before you know it it's a year later and they are ready to graduate and move on to adulthood. I remember the feeling of almost being done with that last semester, it's truly a remarkable and independent feeling to know that you are weeks away from completing high school and being on your own. I'm happy for them and love that they are excited.
These kiddos turned young adults truly bring me so much fulfillment each year, they bring me sooo much laughter, they definitely help keep me young and I love seeing and hearing from them. I'm not sure they realize how much I miss them when they go but that's ok, I'm just a short paragraph in their high school chapter...a paragraph that I hope is in bold ink and underlined (lol) and a paragraph that they never forget about because I will NEVER EVER forget about them. 👑
I'm proud of you my 2020 team and love every single one of you. Thank you for all that you are. ❤️

Meet West Elm Photography Studios

After 10 years of photography, I set out and purchased my own building right off the historical Harrisonville square and made it into my beloved West Elm Photography studio! Huge thank you to my husband Tom for helping with the down payment too even though he dreaded doing it and still does. lol
I bought this building in February of 2019 with the help of Lindsay Keller of Crown Realty, who was amazing the entire step of the way!!
Funny thing is, several past clients have actually posed right in front of this building because I have always been drawn to the front windows, I always loved the retro feel of it! (see pics) Never did I think I would own this building someday!
I found this building to be the perfect size, it had a large backroom that I can use for in-house photography, it also has a shower in case I applied too much bug spray after a session (lol) and has a kitchen for entertaining guests. It's literally perfect! The hardwood floors were already in place, all I needed to do was tear down cabinets, landscape, paint, A LOT of painting (thanks to Mike Philipsheck, he's literally the best) and minor touch ups here and there.
My wonderful and amazing step-dad installed a see-thru mirror for my makeup area and it's truly the best thing ever! I almost forgot about the vault, it's a huge room off the lobby and I couldn't decide what to do with and what better than to make that a dressing room, my son Tred's idea (smart kiddo)! I adore my building and it's location and find that I am pretty hidden off the main road, therefore not a lot of people ever see me but that's more my personality anyways, I like attention but don't like attention. Does that make sense? lol

I mean, as you can tell, I'm super proud. :)

The importance of professional photography & building your self confidence

Don't be hesitant about getting pictures taken of yourself, the benefits of seeing yourself through a professional photographers eyes is an incredibly helpful part of building an identity that is secure and self-defined.

Seeing yourself through professional photography is different than what you see when someone takes a candid of yourself. There really is an art to posing and candids, well they usually feature us in the most unflattering of poses. Granted we need these candid memories and ALL photos are valuable but we don't always love the way we look in photos and it makes us think, geez, is that how I really look to the world? Again this could be just me because I'm incredibly hard on myself but what I've learned is when you feel good, it doesn't matter how you looked in that candid where you have 6 chins and laughing hysterically. What matters is how you feel, on the inside.

So here's my point/opinion, sometimes you need that extra push to feeling good about yourself and having your hair and makeup done by a professional and then working with a photographer that understands different poses and the art to it can truly help give you the confidence to say to yourself "this is who I am and this is what I look like and I look great!". Don't we all need to feel this way about ourselves? sometimes we need a day to ourselves to reconnect and discover more of our beauty.

Survey I read online (you know because everything online is true) is that 65% of women surveyed said they don't like the way they look in pictures... this is why you need me, to help change that opinion of yourself.

Don't forget, you are worth it, you are worth it right now, whatever chapter in life you are in right now, you are worth it, right now. Don't wait until you lose weight, don't wait until you have a tan...you are worth it right now, as you are! :)
